What Level 2 will looks like at School

Good evening everyone,

It has finally happened- we will be at Level 2 tomorrow and school will reopen on Thursday!

Once again New Zealand stepped up, worked as a team and this has enabled us to get closer to our ‘normal’ lives.

We are very excited to see all of our students on Thursday and are working hard today and tomorrow to set the school site up to ensure everyone stays safe and well.

Please read the information below as it describes what school looks like at Level 2 and also how you can help us to ensure that we keep our students and staff safe.

There are some important themes for Level 2:

  • Anyone who is unwell MUST stay home (and will be sent home if they come to school)

  • Schools are exempt from gathering rules as long as it is only the students and staff of the school

  • Risk is mitigated by strong hygiene habits- washing hands and sanitising, cleaning surfaces and equipment every day.

  • Masks are recommended for those 12 and over but not mandatory. These must be provided by families.

What will this look like at Dannevirke South?

  • Students can be at school from 8.30 am and must go home promptly at 3pm

  • Students and visitors must enter through the school gate

  • Students must not be close enough to touch another student or to be in their breath zone

  • We ask parents to remain off site if possible

  • Any visitors must enter the grounds through the school gate, go straight to the school office and sign in.

  • Visitors must maintain a 2m distance from anyone not in their personal bubble.

  • Everyone must sanitize on the entry and exit of each learning space

  • Students will clean their desks before every break

  • School lunches will be provided

  • Buses will run as normal- masks are not compulsory on these runs

  • No assembly or large gatherings

How you can help us succeed and keep everyone safe:

  • Please discuss these guidelines with your children before Thursday- especially the need not to be close enough to touch other students or staff (or to be in their breath zone)

  • We know the students will want to hug and high five each other on Thursday morning but we ask that they refrain from doing this

  • Please make sure your children bring back:

    • Any school devices they have

    • Any journals or books they may have received from school during lockdown

    • Drink fountains are open but we recommend that students bring their own drink bottles

    • If you wish your child to wear a mask please provide this. We do suggest they bring 2 so when one becomes wet they can swap them over.

If you have any questions please reach out.

Thank you for your support with this.
