Important update

Thursday 24 February 2022 update

Tēnā Koutou Katoa,

A big “Thank You” to our families and community for being so supportive in this ever changing environment. As you know, we are moving to Phase Three from midnight tonight. We are still waiting to hear how this impacts schools and also Te Kakano in our current situation. Due to not having received any information yet we ask Te Kakano children to remain at home isolating until we can update you further.

We do ask that if you receive a positive test result to please contact Caroline immediately on 374 8915 or email

Changes at School

Now that we have many students either being instructed to isolate at home (or choosing to isolate) this has triggered the next step of our Covid response plan. Whilst numbers on site are low, we will move to a hybrid delivery of teaching where learning at school and at home is almost the same. Classes will be combined due to low numbers and a teacher from each team will become the At Home Teacher (this teacher may change daily). This At Home Teacher will be online and available for zoom calls and catch ups with students from 10am till 12pm each week day. When not online these teachers will be recording lessons, making resources and marking the returned hard packs. This helps to ensure that learning for our students continues and that we can meet our students’ needs regardless of if they are at home or at school.

We do ask that if you have requested an At Home Learning Pack that, if you are able to, you please organise with the classroom teacher to pick this up from the school office.

I do want to finish by acknowledging the great work of the South School team- they are all working tirelessly for our students and are focused on creating the best learning possible for our children. We are lucky to have such committed staff!

Once again, we really appreciate all your help and support.
